Georgian, Armenian PMs discuss military escalation between Azerbaijan and Armenia

Georgian and Armenian prime ministers Irakli Garibashvili and Nikol Pashinyan on Tuesday discussed the latest military escalation between Azerbaijan and Armenia in the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh.

The Georgian Government Administration said the conversation had been held at the initiative of Pashinyan, who informed Garibashvili about the situation created as a result of the escalation overnight on Tuesday - with casualties confirmed in the flare-up.

Garibashvili expressed his hope the parties would return to the negotiation table and the situation would be resolved peacefully.

He also reaffirmed his Government’s “readiness” to host “active mediation” for “de-escalation and peace” in the region.
