Georgian president Salome Zourabichvili on Thursday condemned the “dangerous escalation” between Armenia and Azerbaijan, following the latest flare-up in hostilities between the two countries over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region this week.
In her remarks over the latest escalation between Georgia’s two neighbours, Zourabichvili stressed a “peaceful Caucasus” as a path towards a “stronger, developed and more independent” region.
“Georgia deplores the dangerous escalation between our two neighbours and friends, Armenia and Azerbaijan. A peaceful Caucasus is the path towards a stronger, developed and more independent region benefitting the future of our populations”, Zourabichvili tweeted.

Georgian and Armenian prime ministers Irakli Garibashvili and Nikol Pashinyan on Tuesday discussed the latest military escalation in the region, with Garibashvili expressing his hope the parties would return to the negotiation table and the situation would be resolved peacefully.
He also reaffirmed his Government’s “readiness” to host “active mediation” for “de-escalation and peace” in the region.
