Russian occupation forces carried out illegal “borderisation” activities near central Georgia’s Kareli Municipality village of Okona and Gremiskhevi village in Dusheti Municipality on Saturday.

Georgia’s State Security Service told local media outlet Interpressnews that the illegal “borderisation” has been a “continuation” of illegal process that had begun in April, 2021 and noted it had alerted the European Union Monitoring Mission and co-chairpersons of the Geneva International Discussions of the developed circumstance, and in addition a dedicated hotline has been activated used for occurrences and incidents along the administrative boundary.

The Service also said “all the issues” would be raised at the next scheduled meetings of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism - designed to facilitate communication between de facto authorities in the occupied regions and Georgian officials - and the Geneva Discussions.

‘Borderisation’ activities include occupation forces occasionally moving barbed wire fences denoting the occupation line into the Georgian-controlled territory and marking areas as the new ABL.

Demarcations and installations erected as part of the process have been reported to restrict freedom of movement, complicate the daily life of the local population and damage the security environment on the site.

Georgian authorities have placed responsibility for the ongoing process fully on the occupation forces.
