Our colleagues have pledged and expressed commitment to oppose the ongoing occupation in Georgia through international instruments, the country should be “safeguarded” under international resolutions, the Georgian parliament speaker Shalva Papuashvili said on Friday after bilateral meetings within the framework of the 145th Inter-Parliamentary Union assembly in Rwanda.
Papuashvili said that the Georgian delegation had met with the speakers and vice-speakers of the parliaments of 12 countries and more meetings have been scheduled, the press office of the Georgian parliament said.
The solidarity expressed to Georgia is intact. As to the occupation of the Georgian territories by Russia and the problem of internally displaced persons, the support is well guaranteed”, the parliament speaker noted.
Papuashvili said that “more attention” has been focused on Georgia, as for the world the violation of the territorial integrity has been strictly contradicting the fundamental international principles and the aggression has been inadmissible.
At the bilateral meetings, we stressed it has been crucial for Georgia to receive maximal support in regard to the ongoing occupation in the United Nations Resolution, which is revised and updated on an annual basis”, Papuashvili added.
