Russian occupation forces have been observed setting up installations near central Georgia’s Gori Municipality village of Khurvaleti, adjacent to the Russian-occupied Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region, Georgia’s State Security Service said on Sunday.

The Service said it had alerted the European Union Monitoring Mission and co-chairpersons of the Geneva International Discussions of the development, in addition to activating the dedicated hotline used for occurrences and incidents along the administrative boundary.

It also said the issue would be raised “sharply” at the next scheduled meetings of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism - designed to facilitate communication between de facto authorities in the occupied regions and Georgian officials - and the Geneva Discussions.

‘Borderisation’ activities include occupation forces occasionally moving barbed wire fences denoting the occupation line into the Georgian-controlled territory and marking areas as the new ABL.

Demarcations and installations erected as part of the process have been reported to restrict freedom of movement, complicate the daily life of the local population and damage the security environment on the site.

Georgian authorities have placed responsibility for the ongoing process fully on the occupation forces.
