Children of Georgian soldiers killed or seriously injured in peacekeeping operations will benefit from tuition grants, the Ministry of Defence said on Wednesday.
Starting with the upcoming academic year, children of servicemembers who died or were injured while serving in international operations, as well as severely disabled veterans and their children, will become eligible for the benefits that previously applied to children of those killed in conflicts for the territorial integrity of the country, the Ministry revealed.
The release stressed promotion of education for military personnel and their family members as a priority within the framework of the body’s social policy. The measures include the Ministry’s provision of 50 percent co-financing of higher education tuition fees for military personnel and their family members, a move initiated by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili during his work as the Minister of Defence.
The Ministry also noted those serving in the Georgian Defence Forces, as well as wounded and injured servicemembers and their family members, enjoyed various privileges and benefits from cultural institutions and healthcare services as well.
