2021 data: 177,897 people receive social assistance in Georgia

A total of 117,897 people received governmental social support package in Georgia in 2021, figures from the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat) show.

In the latest release of data from the agency, statistics for state financial aid to underprivileged citizens show 34.7 percent of recipients being women, with 65.3 percent men.

Among the beneficiaries, 71.9 percent were people with disabilities, 12.4 percent represented family members who had lost their breadwinners, 9.9 percent were veterans from armed conflicts, and 5.5 percent was comprised by recipients of state compensations. 

The regional distribution of people receiving social packages was as follows:

  • Tbilisi - 26.7%
  • Imereti - 16.9%
  • Adjara - 11.4%
  • Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti - 9.7%
  • Other regions - 35.3%

Overall in 2021, 350,959 Georgian families were registered in the database for social programmes, while the number of families receiving subsistence allowance amounted to 174,379.

Geostat said a majority of the pensions were distributed in Tbilisi and reached 29.4 percent of the total amount, followed by the western region of Imereti with 16.3 percent, and the north-western Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti with 10.8 percent.
