A total of 14,382 vacancies were announced in the new government-initiated public employment programme as of March 1, the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labour, Health and Social Affairs said on Wednesday.

Government agencies and local self-government bodies are offering employment as part of the programme to socially vulnerable individuals aged 18 and above and fit for work, with interested citizens asked to apply at the service centres of the State Agency for Social Service or State Employment, or call a dedicated hotline through the number 15 05.

The vacancies are announced as part of the recent initiative by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, who announced the government would aim to replace social assistance with job openings for eligible individuals.

The PM said the employment programme would involve 100,000 citizens this year. Those joining the programme will keep the socially underprivileged status for four years and receive their monthly allowance. Garibashvili also said citizens involved in the programme would receive an additional 300 GEL from the government.

The head of the government said 100-150 million GEL ($32-48 million/€29-43 million) had been allocated for the programme for this year.
