The Government-initiated public employment programme for socially vulnerable citizens has given jobs to about 20,000 people, including 1,000 contracts issued by agencies of the country’s Agriculture Ministry, the Labour Ministry announced on Friday.
Labour Minister Zurab Azarashvili and Agriculture Minister Otar Shamugia met beneficiaries of the programme earlier today in the country’s western Imereti region, including those employed at the National Forestry Agency, National Food Agency and Agency of Protected Areas.
The National Food Agency announced earlier today a total of 464 beneficiaries were employed in their organisation out of 532 positions.
Aiming to employ people who are fit for work and receive social assistance, the public employment programme provides jobs for socially vulnerable citizens without cancelling their social status for four years.
The programme first was announced by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili late last year, and launched in February.
