The International Basketball Federation has awarded the Georgian Basketball Federation for “excellent organisation” of the FIBA Under 20 European Basketball Championship for Division B, the GBF announced on Monday.

The championship ended on Sunday with a game between Serbia and Iceland, won by the latter. The match was followed by the reveal of the top five players and the most valuable player of the tournament.
The games were hosted at the Olympic Palace and the new Tbilisi Arena complex in the capital between July 14-23.

Georgia’s Under 20 national basketball team opened their participation in the Division B of the FIBA U20 European Basketball Championship with a victory over Austria at the new Tbilisi Arena complex on Saturday.

The Georgian women’s national U18 basketball team on Sunday earned top honours of this year’s Women’s European Championship Division C in Andorra, claiming the gold medal of the competition after recording a 61:37 win against Malta.
The Georgian Basketball Federation extended its gratitude on Friday to the Georgian Government, sponsors, fans, media, volunteers and everyone involved in the organisation of the games of Group A of FIBA EuroBasket 2022 in the capital city of Tbilisi for the first time.
Kamil Novak, the executive director of FIBA Europe and Turgay Demirel, the president of the governing body, have praised the Georgian basketball federation among national bodies of host countries of the recently finished EuroBasket tournament, with Novak noting “the biggest legacy of EuroBasket 2022 was the new arena in Tbilisi”.
