A group of unidentified individuals attacked Georgia's wanted former Prosecutor General and justice minister Zurab Adeishvili in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv, Ukrainian online media outlet Ukrainska Pravda reported on Monday.

Adeishvili, who was convicted by Georgian courts on charges for acts dating back to his time in the United National Movement government, was assaulted by about four persons in the city, the website said, adding his condition was "satisfactory".

The news report also said the former government politician was in a hospital under doctors’ supervision.

Ukrainska Pravda also said the attack was allegedly related to Adeishvili's past political activities in Georgia, with an official investigation underway to identify the attackers.

Adeishvili requested a termination of his Georgian citizenship in March 2021, after becoming a Ukrainian citizen.

The former UNM member was sentenced to 18 months in prison in absentia in 2020 for the illegal closure of Iberia TV in 2004.

Adeishvili was also sentenced in absentia for the illegal raid on Imedi TV in 2007, illegal confiscation of Akura vinery business and abuse of office in a Cartu Bank case.

In 2021 Adeishvili was sentenced to six years in prison in absentia for kidnapping and abuse of official authority in the case of former opposition leader Koba Davitashvili, who died in December 2020.

Adeishvili has been out of Georgia since the 2012 elections that saw the UNM government replaced by the Georgian Dream.
