Weekly Covid cases on the rise in Georgia

Georgian health authorities have registered 2,570 new cases of Covid-19 over the past week, with the figure including three deaths and 1,103 recoveries and marking an increase in confirmed cases of the virus in the country.

The latest update also shows the weekly positivity rate standing at 4.05 percent, the National Centre for Disease Control said on Tuesday.

The figure for weekly Covid-19 cases in previous weeks also featured an upward trend, with the number of total weekly cases rising from 546 to 1,058 within three weeks. A total of 2,550 people have confirmed cases of the virus in the country as of today. 

Overall, 63,443 tests were conducted across Georgia over the past week, of which 56,699 were rapid tests and the remaining 6,744 PCR tests. 

The new 2,570 cases were recorded in: 

  • Tbilisi - 1,860 cases 
  • Adjara - 186 cases 
  • Imereti - 169 cases
  • Kvemo Kartli - 71 cases 
  • Shida Kartli - 49 cases 
  • Guria - 31 cases 
  • Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti - 123 cases 
  • Kakheti - 50 cases
  • Mtskheta-Mtianeti - 15 cases
  • Samtskhe-Javakheti - 11 cases
  • Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti - 5 cases

Overall, 1,263,764 people have been fully vaccinated in the country as of today, while 252,748  have received booster shots of the vaccine.
