The epidemiological situation in Georgia is “calm” and “fully manageable” with no “sharp increase” in infection cases, Georgian Health Minister Zurab Azarashvili said on Monday.
Azarashvili compared 100 daily confirmed cases on average from a week ago to the current figure of 500, adding those who required treatment in hospital or medications could receive the services.
He also highlighted the Government had imported Paxlovid, a Covid-19 treatment medication by Pfizer, several months ago, and said there was “no reason” to introduce “any restrictions”, including the requirement of face masks.
Georgian health authorities reported 2,570 new cases of Covid-19 last week, with the figure for weekly confirmed cases over the weeks featuring an upward trend.
Amiran Gamkrelidze, the Head of the Georgian National Centre for Disease Control, said last week the workload of hospitals was not high and amounted to seven to eight percent. He still highlighted the efficiency of vaccines available in Georgia and the importance of vaccination with the increase in cases in mind.
