Georgia’s eastern winemaking region of Kakheti on Sunday hosted Run for Ukraine, a charity competition aimed to help Ukrainian families affected by the Russian aggression.

About 1,500 people took part in an eight-kilometre race, including Ukrainians stranded in Georgia due to the war, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty's Georgian service said.

Davit Kharazishvili finished first in the run among men, while Irina Ovcharenko earned the top step of the podium for women.

The programme for the charity, organised by the Business Association of Georgia and the International Foundation of Sport, Tourism and Youth, also included other sports, entertainment events and an exhibition of handicrafts made by Ukrainian children.

Funds raised from entrance fees will be donated to Ukrainian families affected by the war.
