Georgia-European Union relations and reforms implemented or ongoing in the country within the framework of the Association Agreement were discussed on Thursday in Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili’s meeting with Marina Kaljurand, the Georgia-EU Parliamentary Committee Chairwoman and Sven Mikser, the Rapporteur on Georgia of the European Parliament.

The meeting focused on Georgia's application for EU membership, with Darchiashvili underlining the “high level” of mobilisation of institutional capacity by the Georgian Government for the task, the Foreign Ministry said.

The Minister noted the mobilisation had resulted in the successful completion and submission of the membership self-assessment questionnaire to the European Commission ahead of schedule.

Darchiashvili also  reaffirmed to the MEPs the country's commitment to the course of reforms, noting the readiness of the Government to “do even more” on the path to EU integration.

The sides also discussed  the impact of the ongoing war in Ukraine on regional security and the challenges facing Georgia.

The Minister thanked  the MEPs  for their “personal efforts and support” for the country.
