Vakhtang Makharoblishvili, Georgia's Representative to the European Union, on Wednesday said the upcoming visit of Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili to Brussels for high-level meetings with European Commissioners would be “very important” for the country.
Makharoblishvili emphasised it would be “extremely important” that this year, on the backdrop of Georgia's bid for European Union membership, the Minister would host a reception in Brussels dedicated to Independence Day of the country, marked last week.
“The event will be held symbolically on the main square of the political capital of the European Union, in the City Hall,” the Ambassador said, adding during the venue, the Georgian Minister would have the opportunity to share “important messages” about the European identity of Georgia and the "importance of returning to our European family" .
Makharoblishvili also noted the sectoral cooperation between Georgia and the EU as a “cornerstone” of Georgia's European integration and EU membership.
Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili started his visit to Brussels on Wednesday to hold meetings at the European Commission and European Parliament, the foreign office said on Tuesday.
