Strategic partnership between Georgia and the United States and prospects for future cooperation were discussed on Thursday between Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Derek Chollet, the Counselor of the US Department of State in Tbilisi.
The head of the Georgian Government thanked Chollet for his visit and noted it marked “another clear expression” of US support for the country.
The sides underlined Georgia as an “good example” of the United States’ “unwavering” support and assistance to the country's democratic institutions, defence capabilities and economic development, the Government Administration said.
The two officials also discussed the difficult situation in the Russian-occupied territories of Georgia, with Chollet reaffirming “strong support” for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
At the meeting, attention was also drawn to the ongoing hostilities in Ukraine and Georgia’s continuing support of the country, both at the political level - including in international formats - as well as in humanitarian aid.
The meeting also stressed the importance of strengthening Georgia's democratic institutions on its path to European and Euro-Atlantic integration, with the Georgian side noting the country's Government placing “special importance” to cooperation with the United States in this process.
