The current developments in Ukraine, Germany's support for Georgia's European integration process, and the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries were discussed between presidents Salome Zourabichvili and Frank-Walter Steinmeier in a meeting in Berlin on Monday.
The two presidents highlighted Germany’s support for Georgia in its European integration process, with Zourabichvili noting the European Union had changed its approach to candidate countries and had become “more political”, the press office of the Georgian President said.
Zourabichvili said the people of Georgia were “united” in their support and solidarity for Ukraine amid the Russian invasion, and also informed Steinmeier about the situation in the Russian-occupied territories of Georgia, where she said the Government continued its peaceful resolution policy.
She also expressed hope the German investors looking for alternate energy routes following Russia’s armed action against Ukraine would take an interest in “opportunities” in the South Caucasus region.
Zourabichvili extended an invitation to her counterpart for an official visit to Georgia.
