The Georgian Government would like to ask Ukrainian authorities to take a “responsible approach” to relations established between the nations, Irakli Kobakhidze, the head of the ruling Georgian Dream party, said on Monday following claims about alleged talks between Russia and Georgia over re-export of Russian goods to third countries.
Kobakhidze said it was “unfortunate” to see the allegations being reported in the Ukrainian media that cited the country’s intelligence services on the matter.
It is unfortunate that we have witnessed another such statement, which is not based on any facts. Therefore, we must once again ask the Ukrainian authorities to take a responsible approach to the relations that have been established between our peoples. We have to take care of these relationships,” the GD official said.
Earlier today, Vice Speaker of the Georgian Parliament Archil Talakvadze said the reports in Ukrainian media were “unfounded and incorrect”.
The claims follow similar comments from some Ukrainian authorities and officials about Georgia being used to circumvent international sanctions placed on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine since the hostilities broke out in February.
