The ongoing war in Ukraine, the “difficult” security environment and “hybrid threats” from Russia were discussed on Wednesday in a meeting between the Deputy Defence Ministers of Georgia and NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Emerging Security Challenges James Appathurai.
The meeting focused on hybrid threats from Russia, the means of dealing with them, and the importance of deepening practical NATO-Georgia cooperation in the context to strengthen Georgia's “resilience and defence capabilities,” the Defence Ministry said.
Lela Chikovani and Davit Sujashvili, the Deputy Ministers, spoke with the NATO official about the priority directions of Georgia’s defence field transformation and the implemented reforms in the direction.
In his comments, Appathurai praised the country’s reforms and the progress made in practical cooperation with NATO, and reaffirmed the alliance's readiness to strengthen support for practical cooperation with Georgia, including in further “improving its hybrid and cyber security capabilities.”
