Georgian MP: NATO Deputy Assistant Sec Gen make “important political statement” for Georgia

An “important political statement” for Georgia was made by James Appathurai, the NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Emerging Security Challenges, in his address to the Georgian Parliament, Teona Akubardia, a member of the Parliamentary political faction Reform Group said on Wednesday.

Akubardia said Appathurai’s visit to Tbilisi was an important statement “in itself”, noting it signified the alliance would not stop its policy toward enlargement despite the ongoing Russian aggression in the Black Sea region. 

The Georgian MP added issues related to strengthening Georgia's security had been discussed at a closed-door meeting of the visiting official with the Defense and Security Committee of the Georgian Parliament.
