The “threat” from the United National Movement opposition party to destabilise the country is causing “serious dissatisfaction” in the Georgian society, Gia Volski, a ruling party MP and Vice Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, said on Wednesday.

Volski was responding to comments by some opposition politicians about imprisoned former president Mikheil Saakashvili’s plans for forcing early elections in the country, and said “such statements” caused “dissatisfaction”, including among supporters of the opposition.

"There are very difficult processes going on in the world, [and] against this background there is a constant threat to destabilise the country, develop a revolutionary scenario, forcibly or not forcibly change the Government through a negotiated strategy, and confuse the country,” the Vice Speaker noted.

Volski also said the Georgian Government was “really” creating a prospect of peace on the backdrop of “difficult” international developments, in his criticism of the opposition.
