Close communication and relations with Germany is an “important priority” for the Georgian Government, the Georgian foreign office said on Wednesday on the occasion of the 30th anniversary since the restoration of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

In comments marking the date, the Ministry said the partnership had reached a level where, through joint efforts, the two countries “can take existing cooperation to a qualitatively new level.”

The progress that the two countries made over the last 30 years, namely a strong and comprehensive partnership, is based on a two-century-old historical foundation and shared values. Germany, as a loyal ally of Georgia, strongly supports our country's territorial integrity and sovereignty, as well as European and Euro-Atlantic integration,” the statement said.

The foreign office also noted that Georgia was a “loyal and reliable” partner for Germany, pointing out the support between Georgian and German troops within the NATO Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan, and their joint service for of the “most difficult” tasks in the peacekeeping deployment.

Today, Georgia is a country focused on peace, development and building European democracy, which is successful on the path of democratic transformation and rapprochement with European institutions. This success would have been impossible without the support and involvement of partner countries, in particular Germany,” the MFA noted.
