Police have arrested eight individuals in Tbilisi and several regions of the country on charges of illegal purchase and storage of firearms and ammunition, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said on Monday.

The Ministry revealed law enforcement had seized an unregistered revolver, three automatic firearms, up to 400 cartridges, a Kalashnikov assault rifle and other weapons during the personal search and search of residential houses as part of the arrests.

The crime is punishable by three to 12 years in prison.
