Georgia has been extending "clear and very active support" for Ukraine, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said on Friday in comments on the ongoing military actions in Ukraine.
Speaking in Marneuli, a city in the Kvemo Kartli region of southern Georgia, Garibashvili told reporters “We must do everything to help Ukraine on the humanitarian level, [and] on all levels in international formats”.
The head of the Government noted Georgia had “repeatedly” expressed solidarity with the country amid the ongoing Russian invasion, with up to 400 tons of humanitarian aid packages sent to Ukraine in the process that would continue, the Government Administration said.
Garibashvili was also asked about his view on the statement of Olexiy Arestovych, Adviser to the Ukrainian President, on why the Ukrainian Government had not evacuated its citizens before the military actions in Ukraine broke out.
"They are going through a very difficult ordeal, they are at war, and I can not comment on all the statements," Garibashvili answered.
The Georgian Government has been providing large-scale humanitarian assistance to Ukraine since the start of hostilities in the country, while also extending support to Ukrainian citizens in Georgia.
On April 7, Georgia, along with 92 other countries, supported the suspension of Russia from the United Nations Human Rights Council, amid its invasion of Ukraine. On April 6, the Georgian Government aligned with the European Union declaration condemning the atrocities committed by the Russian armed forces in a number of Ukrainian towns, including Bucha.
