Friendly and partnerly relations between Georgia and Sweden, particularly in the field of defence, were discussed on Wednesday in a meeting between Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili and the Minister of Defence of the Kingdom of Sweden Peter Hultqvist.

The officials noted that the year 2022 marks the 30th anniversary of the resumption of diplomatic relations between their countries, agreeing the date “once again confirms” the strong partnership between them, the Government Administration said.

Another focus of the meeting concerned the European Union membership bid submitted by Georgia last month, with the PM stressing the "special importance" of support by the state's Allies in the process.

Garibashvili reiterated the Georgian Government's appreciation of the support of Sweden for the “irreversible process” of EU integration and its European reform agenda.

On his part, Hultqvist reaffirmed Sweden's support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity to the Prime Minister.

The meeting at the Government Administration also focused on the ongoing hostilities in Ukraine, while the head of the Government reiterated Georgia's political support and solidarity with the country, including through "all international formats".
