Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili announced plans to establish a “modern” base for training special operations forces in the country, along with a cadet school in Tbilisi, in a weekly meeting of the Government on Monday.
Garibashvili said the Ministry of Defence was carrying out “very important infrastructural work”, in particular the construction of a new and modern base for special operations forces, also known as the Mukhrovani Base.
The Government Administration cited the PM on revealing the large-scale works at the site of the base would start this year.
We want it [the base] to be one of the most exemplary bases in the region. The work has started there, but we are talking about a very large-scale work, which will start this year and be completed in two to three years at the latest, and we will have one of the most exemplary modern military bases, a base of special operations,” Garibashvili noted.
The PM also said the Government planned to build a cadet school in Tbilisi, calling the project “an important educational centre for raising young people with a military and patriotic spirit.”
Garibashvili noted a similar school in the western Georgian city of Kutaisi was “very successful”, and would be joined by the new institution in the capital.
