Many countries have failed to do as much for Ukraine as Georgia, Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani told an interview with TV Imedi on Friday, in response to the recall of the Ukrainian Ambassador in Georgia by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy this week.
Zalkaliani said the "sensitivity and delicacy" of the issue of Ukraine meat developments on the matter in Georgia were followed by a significant amount of speculation.
[We] will do our best not to damage relations with Ukraine. Our steps in support of Ukraine are truly unprecedented. I will not become tired of listing what Georgia has done [for supporting the country]. Many countries have not done as much for Ukraine as Georgia in terms of political, humanitarian or economic support,” the Georgian FM said.
Zelenskyy on Thursday signed decrees recalling Ambassadors from Georgia and Morocco, citing their failure to obtain imposition of sanctions of Russia or supply of weapons to Ukraine amid the war as the cause for the moves.
The Ukrainian Government is in a state of war, but this still does not justify the steps which are an “insult” to the Georgian state, Irakli Kobakhidze, the head of the ruling Georgian Dream party, said on Thursday in response to the recall of the Ukrainian Ambassador in Georgia by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The recall of the Ukrainian Ambassador from Georgia has nothing to do with relations between the two states, Giorgi Khelashvili, the First Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs, said on Thursday.
The recall of the Ukrainian Ambassador of Georgia is a matter “up to Ukraine to decide” as the move has been made by the President of the country as a result of his dissatisfaction with the diplomat’s work, Irakli Kadagishvili, the Chairman of the Rules and Procedural Issues Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, said on Thursday.

Decisions made by the Prime Minister of Georgia amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine are based on “certain information and evidence”, Minister of Justice of Georgia Rati Bregadze said on Sunday in an interview with Imedi TV.
Each Georgian diplomat will continue to serve the best interests of the country abroad “with usual determination”, the newly appointed Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili said on Monday in a briefing at the Government Administration.
