Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee Deputy: recall of Ukrainian Ambassador “nothing to do” with Ukraine-Georgia relations

The recall of the Ukrainian Ambassador from Georgia has nothing to do with relations between the two states, Giorgi Khelashvili, the First Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs, said on Thursday.
Khelashvili was responding to the recall of the Ambassador on Thursday for the failure in obtaining Georgia’s imposition of sanctions against Russia following the Kremlin’s invasion of Ukraine starting last month.
The statement of the President of Ukraine shows that this is an internal political, diplomatic affair of Ukraine. We are not authorised to comment on this issue. The recall of the ambassador has nothing to do with Ukraine-Georgia relations, because Georgia was, is and will be the biggest supporter of Ukraine,” the ruling Georgian Dream party member said.
Zelenskyy on Thursday signed decrees recalling Ambassadors from Georgia and Morocco, citing their failure to obtain imposition of sanctions of Russia or supply of weapons to Ukraine amid the war as the cause for the moves.
The war in Ukraine “must end as soon as possible”, and the “human tragedies we see in the 21st century must be stopped”, Shalva Papuashvili, the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, said on Monday in a remote meeting with representatives of Georgian diaspora organisations in Ukraine.
The recall of the Ukrainian Ambassador of Georgia is a matter “up to Ukraine to decide” as the move has been made by the President of the country as a result of his dissatisfaction with the diplomat’s work, Irakli Kadagishvili, the Chairman of the Rules and Procedural Issues Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, said on Thursday.
Georgia is in full compliance with the financial sanctions imposed by the international community against Russia due to its invasion of Ukraine, Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani said on Thursday.

In an interview with Georgia’s TV Imedi on Tuesday, Stefanchuk said he had watched the solidarity rallies for Ukraine held in various Georgian cities.
