Coronavirus: 18,149 tests conducted, 2,058 new cases reported

Georgia has reported a total of 2,058 new cases of coronavirus after conducting 7,054 PCR tests and 11,095 antigen tests over the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile, 529 individuals have recovered from the virus and 22 others have died.
Out of the new 2,058 cases 808 were reported in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi.

As of now Georgia has confirmed 238,086 cases of COVID-19 since last February, including 224,718 recoveries and 2,750 deaths. The number of active cases now stands at 10,592.

Georgian police have meanwhile fined 668 individuals for violations the coronavirus-related regulations.
- 103 individuals were fined for breaching self-isolation and quarantine rules
- 565 others were fined for not wearing face masks in public areas
Failure to abide by the obligation to wear a face mask in public is punishable by a fine of 20 GEL, violation of the rules of isolation and quarantine is punishable by a fine of 2,000 GEL for individuals and 10,000 GEL for legal entities.
The secretary of Georgia’s Catholics Patriarch Ilia II, Shorena Tetruashvili, has tested positive for coronavirus.
Four of 46 inmates checked for coronavirus on January 6 in Tbilisi tested positive, reports the Special Penitentiary Service.
Georgia has reported 537 new cases of coronavirus, 494 recoveries and 34 deaths in the past 24 hours. 9,085 individuals remain infected with Covid-19 in Georgia as of today. 5,265 tests have been conducted in the past 24 hours around the country due to the holiday. 1, 945 of the 5,265 tests were rapid tests, while the remaining 3,320 were PCR tests.
Foreign Ministers of 13 member states of the European Union have called on the European Commission ‘to set up a support mechanism’ to allow the Eastern Partnership countries - Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine - ‘secure early access to COVID-19 vaccine’. The letter initiated by Lithuania was signed by the FMs of Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Sweden.
Georgia has reported 1,143 new cases of coronavirus after conducting a total of 11,155 tests over the last 24 hours. Out of the 11,155 tests conducted over the last 24 hours 4,397 were PCR tests and 6,758 were rapid tests.
Georgia has reported 551 new cases of coronavirus, 880 recoveries and 23 deaths in the past 24 hours. 10,743 individuals remain infected with Covid-19 in Georgia as of today.
