Police have arrested four individuals for ‘membership in the criminal underworld’ and extortion in Borjomi, Rustavi and the Imereti region.
The Georgian Interior Ministry (MIA) says that one out of the three individuals is a Russian citizen.
The MIA reports that the Russian citizen, identified only as I.D., contacted a businessman in Kutaisi and demanded $15,000. I.D. threatened to kill the businessmen if he refused to pay the money.
Police officers seized computer equipment, a vehicle and mobile phones during a search of the suspects.
The crime is punishable up to 12 years in prison.
