Law enforcers of the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on Saturday arrested eight individuals in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi and the country’s western cities of Chiatura and Sachkere on charges of “membership in the criminal underworld” and “use of criminal authorities to gain material benefit or material advantage”, the Ministry said.
“A complex investigation” carried out by the Department and the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia established that the offenders, identified only through their initials, had been mediating between criminal authorities abroad and individuals involved in a financial dispute, and “actively participated” in various criminal activities, the state body said.
Law enforcers seized computer equipment and mobile phones of the offenders during a search.
