The Georgian Interior Ministry on Tuesday said it had arrested three individuals for connections with the “criminal underworld” and use of criminal authorities for settling financial disputes.
The body said the arrests were made after one of the individuals had asked a “member of criminal underworld” for support in solving a financial dispute with the former’s coworker, with a subsequent deliberation also involving a third offender.
It also said the individual addressed with the request had ordered the victim to pay the sum involved in the dispute to their coworker in instalments, with the third person later intimidating the victim for fulfilling the payments.
The Ministry said its investigation had revealed the three individuals, who have previous criminal records, to be “actively involved” in solving disputes of this kind.
Law enforcement officers have seized the phone used by the offenders for settling disputes, with the individuals facing up to 10 years in prison.
