Ukraine calls on int’l community to increase pressure on Russia to stop aggression against Georgia, Ukraine
The spokesperson of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry released a statement in support of the Georgian citizen Zaza Gakheladze, who was sentenced to 12 years and six months in Russian-occupied Georgian region of Tskhinvali (South Ossetia).

Ukraine condemns the recent sentencing of illegally detained Georgian citizen Zaza Gakheladze in the Russian-occupied Tskhinvali region.
The spokesperson of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Oleg Nikolenko stated yesterday that this illegal decision ‘grossly violates’ the norms and principles of international law and Russia’s obligations under the 2008 ceasefire agreement.

Nikolenko said this also demonstrates Russia's intentions to destabilise the security and humanitarian situation in both occupied Georgian regions - Tskhinvali and Abkhazia - as well as in the entire region.
Reiterating his country’s support to Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders, Nikolenko called on Russia to ‘immediately stop destabilising steps’ against the civilian Georgian population in occupied regions and release illegally detained Gakheladze.

Georgian citizen Zaza Gakheladze, who was shot and illegally detained by Russian-controlled occupation forces last year, was sentenced to 12 years and six months last Friday. The international community condemns Gakheladze's sentencing, calling for his immediate release.
United States Acting Deputy Chief of Mission to the OSCE Elisabeth Rosenstock-Siller said in her address to the Permanent Council on Thursday that the US condemns the recent sentencing of Georgian citizen Zaza Gakheladze in Russian-occupied Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region.
Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia stated earlier today that the Georgian government, with the country’s strategic partners, will take concrete steps in the coming days to secure the release of illegally detained and convicted Georgian citizen Zaza Gakheladze by Russian-controlled occupation forces. “I have had constant communication and negotiations with our strategic partners and in the coming days we will take concrete steps to help our citizen,” Gakharia said.
The European Union calls for the immediate release of Georgian citizen Zaza Gakheladze, who was sentenced to 12 years and six months in the Russian-occupied Tskhinvali region yesterday. The Georgian Foreign Ministry has called on the international community to ‘take genuine steps’ to secure the release of Georgian citizen Zaza Gakheladze, who was shot and illegally detained by the Russian controlled occupation forces last year and sentenced to 12 years and six months in prison earlier today.
