The Georgian government has welcomed the decision of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to build a logistical hub of regional importance in Georgia, in the city of Rustavi, which will incorporate warehouses and a training center.
Georgian PM Irakli Garibashvili met with Jagan Chapagain, Secretary General of IFRC, earlier today to discuss prospects for further cooperation.
Garibashvili thanked Chapagain for IFRC’s support during the coronavirus pandemic.
The current situation in Georgia’s Russian-occupied Tskhinvali and Abkhazia regions was also discussed at the meeting.
Garibashvili and Chapagain stated that the humanitarian situation in these regions is ‘severe.’
The PM reaffirmed that Georgia is taking steps to peacefully resolve conflicts, noting that the Georgian government has launched various state programmes, including A Step Forward to a Better Future, which aim to support the Georgian population living in the occupied regions and ease reintegration of the territories.
