Georgia will receive 100,000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine donated by International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on September 11, Georgian Health Minister Ekaterine Tikaradze has stated today.
Registration for the batch will open on September 13.
A total of 1,366,678 people are vaccinated in Georgia as of September 8, out of which 856 956 have received one dose of Covid-19 vaccine, while 509,722 have received two doses of vaccine.
A total of 27,011 individuals have been vaccinated in the last 24 hours in the country.

The government of Georgia has decided to introduce a 2.8 million GEL lottery in order to encourage citizens to get vaccinated against Covid-19. The lottery will start on September 13 and will be drawn on a daily basis on the website www.stopcov.lotto.ge at 12:00 p.m. until the end of the year, offering 100 and 500 GEL prizes.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has approved the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine for emergency use in all countries, giving the green light for this vaccine to be rolled out globally, including in Georgia.
Head of Georgia’s National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Amiran Gamkrelidze has received the Chinese Sinopharm coronavirus vaccine live on TV earlier today. Georgia received 100,000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine, which is an inactivated vaccine, earlier in April. The vaccine has around a 78% efficacy rate and is likely to be approved by the World Health Organisation by the end of this week. Gamkrelidze stated that ‘it is symbolic I was the first who received the vaccine in Georgia,’ adding that that the vaccine has already been used in 45 foreign states.
Georgia has reported 2,455 new cases of coronavirus, 4,427 recoveries and 58 deaths in the past 24 hours. In total, 36,151 tests have been conducted around the country of which 19,693 tests were rapid tests, while the remaining 16,458 were PCR tests. 6.79% of tested individuals had Covid-19 as of September 8. Since February 26, 2020 Georgia has had 572,948 cases of coronavirus, 531,764 recoveries and 8,035 deaths.
Georgian health officials have warned the public that the next wave of Covid-19 will be ‘critically dangerous’ for unvaccinated individuals above 60.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili held a meeting with Gilles Carbonnier, Vice-President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), earlier today in Tbilisi and thanked him and the organisation for their ‘important work’ in Georgia, in the country’s Russian-occupied Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions, and along the line of occupation.
The Georgian government has welcomed the decision of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to build a logistical hub of regional importance in Georgia, in the city of Rustavi, which will incorporate warehouses and a training center.
