The ruling Georgian Dream (GD) is holding a ‘large, summarising assembly of its supporters’ on central Freedom Square in the capital Tbilisi at 17:00 today.

GD head Irakli Kobakhidze urged the public on Monday to actively participate in municipal election run-offs on October 30, ‘to ensure the victory of the ruling party candidates in all 20 constituencies.’

Only several days are left before run-offs. We are destined for victory in all constituencies where the second round of elections is scheduled,” Kobakhidze said.

He has dismissed reports that the ‘assembly of supporters’ is a counter-rally to the United National Movement (UNM) opposition party demonstration held on October 14.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has also urged ‘every citizen of the country, who supports peaceful, stable development of the country, who are against the violence and injustice which took place under the United National Movement (UNM) government, to participate in the peaceful assembly.’

Traffic movement will be restricted due to the assembly on central streets today.

Movement will be banned on all streets connecting to Freedom Square – Shalva Dadiani, Kote Abkhazi and Giorgi Leonidze streets.

Traffic movement will be temporarily banned at Freedom Square starting midnight.
