Election polls commissioned by the opposition-minded TV channel Mtavari Arkhi says that the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party will receive 35% of the vote while the largest opposition United National Movement (UNM) party will get 30% of the vote in the upcoming October 2 municipal race.
The survey conducted by the international French-based company Ipsos also showed that the ruling party's mayoral candidate, incumbent Kakha Kaladze will get 41% of the vote while the united opposition’s joint candidate Nika Melia will receive 36% of the vote.

The survey was conducted between September 21-25 and 1,500 respondents were interviewed. The margin of error of the survey is 3 per cent.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has stated earlier today that the results of the survey commissioned by the Mtavari Arkhi ‘are falsified,’ noting that ‘the research is conducted by a local Georgian company.’
Of course, this is a falsified study...How can the UNM and our party (GD) which has almost twice as many results, show almost the same result,” Garibashvili stated.
A total of 241 mayoral and 2,845 majoritarian candidates are running for the local elections.
The mayoral candidate must receive more than 50 per cent of the vote in the municipal elections while the majoritarian candidate must get over 40 per cent of the vote to gain the victory in the first round.
