Our primary goal is to ensure safe environment for free and fair elections, which are essential for Georgia and its European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has tweeted.

Irakli Garibashvili addressed the country’s international partners earlier today as well, saying that the ‘government will ensure the upcoming October 2 municipal elections are held in a calm and competitive environment’.
He also warned of ‘expected provocations’ and noted that police are mobilised for the elections and ‘no one will be allowed to provoke chaos.’
Georgia will have local self-government elections in October 2. A total of 71 local and 33 international organisations will observe the election process.
Misuse of administrative resources during the election process and politicisation of public institutions remain key challenges in the run up to local self-government elections to be held on October 2, Transparency International Georgia (TI Georgia) has reported.
Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili says that the composition of the Georgian government by the majority only over the past nine years has shown that a coalition government ‘is necessary for Georgia,’ Zurabishvili has told Le Journal du Dimanche during her recent trip to France. However, Zurabishvili says that it is hard to forecast how the coalition government may work.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has addressed the country’s international partners and stated that the ‘government will ensure the upcoming October 2 municipal elections are held in a calm and competitive environment.’ "I would like to say to our international partners that our main ambition is for the upcoming local elections to be exemplary. These elections must be free, fair, transparent so that no one is left with any questions,” Garibashvili said.
Election polls commissioned by the opposition-minded TV channel Mtavari Arkhi says that the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party will receive 35% of the vote while the largest opposition United National Movement (UNM) party will get 30% of the vote in the upcoming October 2 municipal race.
The Council of Europe’s Congress of Local and Regional Authorities will observe the October 2 self-government elections in Georgia on the invitation of the Georgian government in 64 municipalities of the country. The mission involves 18 congress observers from 15 countries and is chaired by David Eray from Switzerland.
