Borjomi mineral water registered as Georgian appellation brand in China

In order to protect the geographical indication of Georgian mineral water brand of Borjomi, the National Intellectual Property Centre Sakpatenti has registered it in China as a brand of Georgian origin.

From now on, in China, the use of the name of origin 'Borjomi' without the consent of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia will be banned", reads the press-release published by Sakpatenti.

Sakpatenti announces that Borjomi was registered in the name of a Chinese company in China. 

Sakpatenti has filed a lawsuit against the Chinese company with the Chinese Trademark Dispute Resolution Agency, demanding the cancellation of these registrations. The dispute was resolved in favour of Sakpatenti and the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia was given the special right to name Borjomi", says Sakpatenti.
