Georgian external trade up 20.7% in January-June 2021

Georgia’s external trade turnover amounted to $6.20 billion in January-June 2021, which is 20.7% higher compared to the same period of the last year.

The value of exports increased 25.2% and totalled $1.88 billion, while imports also increased 18.9%, amounting to $4.32 billion.

The trade deficit of Georgia in January-June 2021 amounted to $2.44 million which is 39.3% of total trade turnover.

In the reporting period Georgia's top trading partners by exports were China ($289.9 million), Russia ($263.7 million) and Azerbaijan ($244.4 million), while top trading partners by imports were Turkey ($779.6 million), Russia ($466.1 million) and China ($362.8 million).

The top trading partners in the total external trade of Georgia were:

  • Turkey ($944.1million)
  • Russia ($729.8 million)
  • China ($ 652.6 million)

The top three export items were the following:

  1. Copper ores and concentrates - $391 million, 20.7% of total exports
  2. Motor cars - $205.4 million, 10.9% of total exports
  3. Ferro-alloys totalled - $186.3 million, 9.9% of total exports

The top import commodities were as follows:

  • Motor cars - $371.4 million, 8.6% of total imports
  • Copper ores and concentrates - $335.5 million, 7.8% of total imports
  • Petroleum and petroleum oils - $327.2 million, 7.6% of total imports
