Georgia will receive 100,000 doses of China's Sinovac vaccine today, announces Deputy Health Minister Tamar Gabunia.
She said that the use of Sinovac will start after it receives authorisation from the World Health Organisation, however, if this process is delayed, Georgian health officials will discuss how the vaccine might be used in the country.
It is announced that Sinovac will receive authorisation in early May but if this process is delayed we will discuss the terms of use of the vaccine, taking into account the epidemiological risks. It is widely used by Turkey, Azerbaijan and Ukraine. The results of Sinovac are quite benign. It also has good results in terms of effectiveness and significantly reduces the incidence of severe cases and mortality", said Gabunia.
As for another Chinese vaccine of Sinopharm, Gabunia said that the use of this vaccine will start on May 4 no matter whether it receives authorisation from the World Health Organisation or not.
Gabunia said that Sinopharm is already authorised by 35 countries of the world.
The Chinese government will gift Georgia 100,000 doses of Sinovac vaccine in April, head of Georgia’s National Centre for Disease Control Amiran Gamkrelidze stated earlier today. Georgia received 100,000 doses of Chinese Sinopharm vaccine last week and the country has plans to purchase the Chinese Sinovac vaccine in April, Gamkrelidze said. He stated that both vaccines are likely to be approved by the World Health Organisation (WHO) in mid-April and Georgia will launch vaccination only after.
Georgia has received the 100,000 doses of the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine earlier today. However, Sinopharm vaccination will not start until it received approval from the World Health Organisation.
Georgia will receive 200,000 doses of two Chinese vaccines this Saturday, Head of the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health Amiran Gamkrelidze announced earlier today. Georgia bought 100,000 doses of the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine, while another 100,000 doses of the Sinovac vaccine were gifted by China to Georgia.
As of today, 57,000 individuals have registered on a special website created by the Georgian Health Ministry to find out the number of those wishing to get vaccinated against coronavirus.

"I’m very grateful to you, dear Péter, for your contribution to ensure the safe transportation of Covid-19 vaccines to Georgia”, FM Zalkaliani wrote in response to Szijjártó in Facebook.
Georgia has reported 1,476 new cases of coronavirus, 791 recoveries and 15 deaths in the past 24 hours. In total 27,895 tests have been conducted around the country on the weekend of which 11,090 tests were rapid tests, while the remaining 16,805 were PCR tests.
Georgia has reported 1,147 new cases of Covid-19 after conducting a total of 20,129 tests over the last 24 hours. Out of the new cases 653 were reported in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi.
