Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia has confirmed earlier today that 100 cases of the coronavirus have been confirmed in Georgia since the outbreak.
One of the infected is a nurse, infected while on duty.
Though 18 have recovered, the number of infected people is concerning. In the case of three patients, the source of the infection cannot be identified. A healthcare worker has been infected and this fact gives us the opportunity to take further and tougher steps”, said Gakharia.
Gakharia has announced a nationwide curfew starting tomorrow ‘to effectively contain the spread of coronavirus in Georgia’.
PM Gakharia said that people in several regions refuse to stick to the rules which has made it necessary to declare a lockdown across the country.
On March 28, the Head of the Georgian National Centre for Disease Control Amiran Gamkrelidze said that two sources of COVID-19 transmission out of the 85 confirmed cases could not be identified, which means that it is ‘highly likely’ Georgia is experiencing the internal transmission of COVID-19.
As of now, 18 individuals have recovered from coronavirus in Georgia. The first case of infection was registered on February 26 in the country and a state of emergency was announced on March 21.
