Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air will temporarily suspend flights to Austria, France, Germany and Spain from the Kutaisi International Airport in the western Georgian town of Kutaisi, to prevent the possible spread of COVID-19.
In particular, flights will be suspended from March 16 to April 3, Kutaisi International Airport announced earlier today.
It also added that Poland and the Czech Republic have also imposed restrictions on international flights:
Wizz Air has also reported that “due to a decrease in demand across the network and various government restrictions on entry”, a number of its flights are subject to cancellations.
Passengers with bookings affected by these cancellations are informed at the earliest possible date and offered a full refund. Rebooking for an alternative route is only possible if there is no airport lockdown or air travel restriction in the given country”, Wizz Air has posted on Facebook.
Those Georgian citizens who are currently in any of the country where the flights have been cancelled and face difficulties in returning to their homeland, should contact their respective embassies and/or consulates to receive information about the alternative routes.
Moreover, from March 20, flights will also be suspended between Georgia and Turkey. Movement will also be temporarily restricted at the Sarpi customs checkpoint that is located in the south-west of Georgia on the border with Turkey. However, Vale and Kartsakhi customs checkpoints will operate as usual.
