Three major clubbing venues in Tbilisi have temporarily shuttered their doors to ensure prevention of a spread of coronavirus infections at large gatherings, with Bassiani, Mtkvarze and Khidi announcing decisions to suspend events on calendar for the rest of the month.
The decisions follow recommendations from the national health agencies on suspending large gatherings for public events and the World Health Organisation's declaration of a pandemic on Wendesday.
On Thursday the three popular clubs announced to their social media followers that events on their schedules for the rest of the month would be cancelled, citing concern for thousands of music enthusiasts filling their spaces every weekend.
The Khidi update said organisers of the venue would "monitor the developments on a daily basis" for their longer-term plans but considered the March calendar cancellation to be "in the best interest for all of us".
Mtkvarze told their followers it was "time to take maximum safety measures" with "one of the hardest decisions", but that they hoped to "get back on usual track shortly".
Number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Georgia increased to 24 on Wednesday, with the government urging businesses and event organisers to refrain from holding large gatherings. National sporting competitions were suspended over the recent days, with schools and universities set to switch to remote classes.
