Inflation data: prices of vegetables, meat, fruits, grapes up in February

Prices of vegetables, meat, fruit and grapes have increased in Georgia, show the latest inflation data from the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

In February 2020 the prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 1.3 per cent. The prices in the group increased for the subgroups of:

  • Vegetables (8%)
  • Fruit and grapes (3.6%)
  • Mineral waters, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices (1.7%)
  • Sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and confectionery (0.7%)

Meanwhile, the prices decreased for:

  • Oils and fats (-0.6%)
  • Milk, cheese and eggs (-0.3%)

Clothing and footwear prices decreased by 3.1 per cent. Geostat said that the prices in the group went down for both:

  • Footwear (-6%) 
  • Clothing (-1.4%)

Transport related cost decreased by 0.7 per cent. The prices decreased for purchase of vehicles (-1.2%) and operation of personal transport equipment (-1.0%)

Overall in February 2020, the consumer price index increased by 0.3 per cent compared to the previous month, while the annual inflation rate amounted to 6.4 per cent.
