June inflation: prices of clothing, footwear, healthcare up in Georgia

The prices of clothing and footwear and healthcare have increased in Georgia month-on-month, according to the latest inflation data from the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

The prices in the group of clothing and footwear increased by 5.6 per cent. The prices went up for both:

  • Clothing (2.8 per cent)
  • Footwear (11 per cent)

Health-related costs went up by 2.3 per cent. Prices increased for out-patient services (7.1 per cent).

On the other hand, the prices decreased for food and non-alcoholic beverages (by 4.8 per cent) and for transport (by 3.4 per cent).

The prices were lower for:

  • Vegetables (-28.7 per cent)
  • Fruit and grapes (-6.2 per cent)
  • Milk, cheese and eggs (-5.2 per cent)
  • Fish (-1.2 per cent)

Overall, in June 2020 the consumer price index decreased by 1.4 per cent compared to the previous month, while the annual inflation rate amounted to 6.1 per cent.

With regard to the annual core inflation, which  is calculated by excluding the groups of food and non-alcoholic beverages, energy, regulated tariffs, transport from the consumer basket, the prices increased by 6.6 per cent, while the annual core inflation without tobacco amounted to 6.2 per cent", said Geostat.

As for the annual inflation, here prices increased in the group of food and non-alcoholic beverages (+ 13.6 per cent):

  • Fruit and grapes (46.5 per cent)
  • Milk, cheese and eggs (17.2 per cent)
  • Fish (15.8 per cent)
  • Coffee, tea and cocoa (14.8 per cent)
  • Oils and fats (13.5 per cent)
  • Meat (13.1 per cent)
  • Sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and confectionery (12.6 per cent)
  • Bread and cereals (10 per cent)
  • Mineral waters, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices (9.3 per cent)

Year-on-year prices of transport went down by 8.6 per cent and of healthcare went up by 7.5 per cent, said Geostat.
