US Acting Assistant Secretary of State of European and Eurasian Affairs Philip Reeker has congratulated Giorgi Gakharia on his reappointment as Georgian prime minister.
In a phone conversation earlier today PM Gakharia thanked Philip Reeker for the US support to Georgia within the fiscal year of 2021.
During the conversation they spoke of all of the key directions of the strategic partnership between the two countries, including the need for improved cooperation in the area of defence and security.
PM Gakharia thanked the US for the ‘unwavering support’ for Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
He meanwhile expressed his government’s readiness to deepen ‘strategic partnership’ with the US and cooperate with its new administration.
The US National Security Council has also congratulated Giorgi Gakharia and his cabinet of ministers

The parliament of Georgia confirmed Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia and his cabinet of ministers on December 24.
International leaders have congratulated Giorgi Gakharia on his reappointment as Georgian Prime Minister. Gakharia has received letters of congratulation from Ukrainian, Slovak, German, Estonian, Italian and Azerbaijani leaders.
US President Donald Trump has signed the Consolidated Appropriations Act 2021 which includes $132,025,000 in financial aid for Georgia.
The parliament of Georgia has confirmed Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia and his cabinet of ministers with 85 votes in favour and none against. 10 out of 11 members of the cabinet remain unchanged; only former deputy Justice Minister Gocha Lortkipanidze will temporarily take over as justice minister before he officially takes up the position of judge at the Hague-based International Criminal Court (ICC).
The US Department of State says that during his visit to Georgia State Secretary Mike Pompeo reiterated ‘unwavering US support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in the face of Russian occupation’.“Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo met with Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia and Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani in Tbilisi, Georgia. Secretary Pompeo and Prime Minister Gakharia discussed the importance of free, fair, and transparent parliamentary elections and the essential role of an independent judiciary in a democracy,” said the Department of State press office.
