Tbilisi City Hall will spend 400,000 GEL on musicians for New Year events, said Georgian Economy Minister Natia Turnava earlier today.
Turnava mentioned that before the Covid-19 pandemic, musicians were actively involved in various events throughout Georgia, but as of now they no longer have this opportunity and are left without a source of income. That’s why the City Hall should take care of them during the New Year period.
As of now musicians and singers are deprived of an opportunity to participate in various musical events throughout the country. Due to the existing restrictions restaurants are closed, it is strictly forbidden to hold concerts in hotels too. That’s why the Economy Ministry decided to allocate 400,000 GEL to involve as many musicians and singers as possible in the New Year event organised by the City Hall”, said Turnava.

A total of 1,784 new cases of coronavirus have been reported in Georgia over the last 24 hours after conducting 14,421 tests. Meanwhile, 4,119 people have recovered, outnumbering the new cases; while 39 individuals have died.
The Ministry of Culture will again become a separate entity from the current joint structure with education, science and sport administrations, with the government poised to help commercialise the field, Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia told the parliament earlier today.
Shopping centres have opened around the country at 07:00 in the morning for the New Year holiday.
Shopping centres will open their doors between December 24 and January 2 from 7 am to 7 pm.

This year’s celebrations will differ from the previous years due to coronavirus-related restrictions throughout the country. However, with its shimmer and twinkle New Year illuminations Tbilisi will turn into a festive city despite the pandemic.
Georgia has reported 2,012 new cases of coronavirus, 2,638 recoveries and 25 deaths in the past 24 hours. 13,451 tests have been conducted in the past 24 hours around the country. 8,313 of the 13,451 tests were rapid tests, while the remaining 5,138 were PCR tests. Georgia has had 224,155 cases of coronavirus since February. 208,951 of the 224,155 individuals have recovered, while 2,443 others have died.
