Two employees of Tbilisi penitentiary facility No. 8 have been detained for negligence resulting in an attack on the co-founder of the opposition-minded Mtavari Arkhi TV channel Giorgi Rurua.

Rurua was attacked by other convicts in prison on November 2. The convicts who attacked him were immediately placed in a strict regime prison.

Rurua, who was detained for illegal possession and carrying of a firearm last November, has been sentenced to four years in prison earlier this year.

Director General of Mtavari Arkhi TV channel Nika Gvaramia claims that Rurua’s detention is connected with the establishment of the new channel where Rurua holds 2.5 percent of the shares.
The co-founder of the opposition-minded TV channel Mtavari Arkhi Giorgi Rurua was found guilty for the illegal possession and carrying of firearms and has been sentenced to four years in prison by Tbilisi City Court earlier today.
The denial came several hours before the ‘historic vote’ of election bill in parliament today which proposes a more proportional electoral system for the autumn parliamentary elections, per the ruling party and the opposition March 8 election agreement.
The Georgian Chief Prosecutor’s Office has requested help from the US to investigate a high-profile murder case of the Toradze family back in 1992, involving the current co-founder of the opposition-minded TV channel Mtavari Arkhi Giorgi Rurua.

Two employees of penitentiary No. 8 in Tbilisi Levan Gelashvili and Shalva Margvelashvili, who were earlier charged with negligence which resulted in an attack on the co-founder of the opposition-minded Mtavari Arkhi TV channel Giorgi Rurua, have been denied bail earlier today by Tbilisi City Court.
